This past week, the BCPVPA Board of Directors met in beautiful sunny Victoria for three days of business wrapped together with many positive connections. We started the weekend with a Thursday after-school reception, where we had the pleasure of meeting with enthusiastic and dedicated Chapter executive members from the Greater Victoria, Sooke, Saanich, and Cowichan Valley school districts. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with these members who are working hard in their districts on behalf of their colleagues, and providing a strong link to the BCPVPA. The Board was grateful to each of these folks for taking the time to connect with us and to share about the great things happening in their districts.
On the following day, the Board welcomed Deputy Minister Kaye Krishna and Associate Deputy Minister Jennifer McCrea from the Ministry of Education and Child Care, who set time aside in their very busy and complex schedules to meet with us. DM Krishna shared highlights of the Ministry’s priorities, and the Board had the opportunity to talk about the work of Principals and Vice-Principals around the province. It was a great opportunity to share the thoughts and experiences of our members with senior Ministry staff. Both DM Krishna and ADM McCrea listened thoughtfully, and showed great interest in the work of our members and our Association. They expressed their desire and commitment to continue to work alongside us as a valued provincial partner group. Ministry staff have regularly attended our Chapter Council meetings to present and to listen to member input on a variety of topics that are important to Principals and Vice-Principals, such as child care in schools, food programs, and support for complex students and families. We are grateful for this relationship, and are committed to continuing to promote the needs of our members with provincial decision-makers.
Overall, it was a busy but extremely productive visit to BC’s beautiful capital, and the Board left feeling energized and excited about the work ahead of us.
As we look further to the weeks ahead, we are also focusing on the upcoming Board elections, and encourage all members to cast their vote when the first ballot opens on May 6. As leaders in education, we know the importance of informed decision-making, active participation, and strong representation. The upcoming elections for President-Elect and Board Directors are your opportunity to help shape the future of our organization, and the voice we bring to the table on behalf of BC school and district Principals and Vice-Principals.
These elected roles are more than titles. They represent the shared vision, values, and priorities of our membership. By casting your vote, you are helping to choose the leaders who will advocate for your needs, help support your professional growth, and guide the BCPVPA through the challenges and opportunities ahead. Whether you are new to your role or a seasoned leader, participating in this election is a powerful way to contribute to our community and influence the direction of our Association. Your opinion matters.
Watch for candidate bios, listen to their messages, ask questions — and, most importantly, vote! Please see the weekly updates in ENews, or visit the Elections tile in My BCPVPA, for election details.
