THE PRESIDENT’S PERSPECTIVE - Dr. Shannon Behan

Apply for a 2026–2028 BCPVPA Advisory Committee
March 13, 2026

One of the greatest strengths of the BCPVPA is this: we are a member-led organization.

Our voice is strongest when it is shaped by practicing Principals and Vice-Principals from every corner of the province: rural and urban, elementary, middle, and secondary, experienced and newly appointed, diverse in identity and experience.

On March 12, members received a Member Update announcing that applications are now open for our 2026–2028 Advisory Committees. I want to personally invite you to consider putting your name forward.

Serving on an Advisory Committee is one important way that members can influence the direction of our Association. These committees provide advice and recommendations to the Board of Directors, and help ensure that our decisions reflect the lived realities of educational leaders across BC.

The Five Standing Advisory Committees

For the 2026–2028 term, we are welcoming applications for:

Budget Advisory Committee
Reviews the budget and associated processes and prepares advice and recommendations to accompany the budget when presented to the Board.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee
Advises the Board on matters relating to equity, diversity, and inclusion as described in the BC Human Rights Code.

Indigenous Leadership Advisory Committee
Advises the Board on matters relating to Indigenous leadership.

Member Well-Being Advisory Committee
Advises the Board regarding how the Association can address work intensification and support member well-being.

Professional Learning and Development Advisory Committee
Advises the Board with respect to professional learning programs and service to members.

Most Committees meet twice per year,  typically through one in-person full-day meeting at the BCPVPA office in Vancouver, and one virtual meeting. All travel and release costs, where applicable, are covered by the Association.

A Few Important Notes

  • All BCPVPA members are eligible to apply.
  • Committee terms are two years.
  • Members may serve up to three consecutive two-year terms.
  • Current Committee members completing the second year of a term must reapply if they wish to continue on that Committee.
  • If applying for more than one Committee, please submit a separate application for each.

There is one application link for all Committees, and you will be able to indicate your Committee of choice within the form.

Leadership in our province is complex, demanding, and deeply relational. Advisory Committees are where that complexity is examined thoughtfully — where ideas are tested, perspectives broadened, and collective wisdom strengthens the work of the Board.

If you have ever thought:

“I have something to contribute.”

“I see something that could be strengthened.”

“I want to better understand how our Association works.”

This is your moment.

I encourage you to consider stepping forward.

Your voice and experience matter, and your leadership shapes our Association.

Onward,

Dr. Shannon Behan
